Designer gold “grillz” or so-called mouth-bling, is growing in popularity, it has been reported.

Grillz are cosmetic affixes for teeth often <a href=http://www.alljewelrydesigners.com/ ” target=”_blank”>designed using gold</a> and can be removable or permanent and covering either an entire row of teeth or a singular tooth.

The Daily Journal reports that grillz first gained popularity in New York during the 1980s and were worn by notable hip-hop icons Slick Rick and Flavor Flav.

According to the online news journal, grillz are “wildly” popular in the south of the US – with some school districts in Alabama, Georgia and Texas having banned grillz for being distracting in classrooms.

The Daily Journal notes that Nelly drew attention to the craze last year with his number one rap song “Grillz”.

However, DecoDent recently noted that it offers a non-invasive method “to show off some gold in your mouth” called Facings.

It reveals that Facings resemble gold caps but are bonded onto the surface of the tooth without harming the enamel.
