Silver is even softer than gold; therefore it can never be used in its pure form to make jewelry. Silver is always blended with a different metal; this is always acceptable. The metals that are added to silver usually make it even shinier! In the United States, any jewelry that is labeled as silver or sterling silver, by law, will be at least 93.5 percent of pure silver.

There is the traditional list and the modern list. Many jewelry organizations decided that the gems listed on the traditional list were either too expensive or too rare for people to buy.
